Peanut Butter Banana Pupcake

Updated: Feb 26, 2022

Every birthday should be celebrated with cake, no exceptions! Our favorite furry friends deserve to be spoiled with homemade tasty treats on their birthdays just like humans. That's why every year we go all out to ensure our fur baby is properly spoiled on his birthday. Since everyone knows dogs and peanut butter go hand in hand, I made Shadow his very own cake filled with peanut butter and banana, topped with a lightly sweetened honey cream cheese frosting, and decorated with chicken-wrapped bone-shaped biscuits. This super easy cake is made with all natural ingredients and is both dog and human friendly.

Ingredients

Peanut Butter Banana Cake

  • 1 large egg, beaten

  • ½ cup creamy peanut butter (natural peanut butter with no added sugar or salt is best for dogs)*

  • ⅓ cup honey

  • ¼ cup coconut oil

  • 1 cup mashed banana

  • ½ cup whole wheat flour

  • ½ cup all-purpose flour

  • ¼ cup old-fashioned oats

  • 1 tsp baking soda

  • ½ tsp baking powder

Honey Cream Cheese Frosting

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened

  • 3 Tbsp honey

Directions

Peanut Butter Banana Cake

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray a cake pan with nonstick cooking spray.

  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the egg, peanut butter, honey, and coconut oil until smooth and well combined.

  3. Add in the mashed banana and whisk well until very few lumps remain.

  4. Add in the flours, oats, baking soda, and baking powder and stir until incorporated.

  5. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool completely before frosting.

Honey Cream Cheese Frosting

  1. Using an electric handheld mixer, beat together the cream cheese and honey until light and creamy. Spread the frosting on top of the cooled cake and decorate as desired.

*NOTE: Be sure to check your peanut butter for xylitol, which is extremely toxic to dogs.
